i did not know it was possible to fuck up a gift voucher
we got our lil christmas bonus today.. wich was one diabetus bread (yay) and what i thought was a $50 gift voucher (yay)
welp..it is technically $50 but actually 5000 points you get to spend on pre selected gifts or days out (4 towels 3500 points haa)
well.. im not overly fussed as a traditional xmas box of foodibles and sweets was available so i spent most me points on that... but oh man... theres gonna be a lot of bitching amongs the peasants tomorow
(the vast majority of gifts you could pick were perfumes, cutlery and utensils)

Been there...done that. Got told off when I asked HR whose stupid idea that was without realising the CEO was behind me. Of course it was the CEO’s idea...
The following year we got supermarket vouchers which we could also spend on booze..

Wow. They really went all out, in an effort to be as cheap as possible.

I’ve worked for a dozen different semiconductor companies for 30 years, never received anything whatsoever. Nada.

Hmm, that bread does look tasty.
But the only way those fuckers pre-selected gifts instead of just giving you the damned $ 50 is because either a) they’re paying $ 25 for your “ $ 5 0 gifts” or b) they’re getting a bunch of free shit personally for choosing that vendor.
My money is on b.

My work ( a grocery store ) gives everyone a voucher for 20 % off of an order. Everybody saves it for their big Christmas dinner shopping trip to get the most out of it. 20% off of a prime rib is a hefty amount.

Indeed. I certainly didn’t want an I LUV MUM coffee mug or a USB powered Himalayan salt lamp...

tradition here was round xmas you get a box of tasties (contents may vary depending on where you work) but usually sweets, crisps other foodibles maybe a bottle of wine or two... its a dying tradition

![]() 12/18/2018 at 18:39 |

I also like diabetus bread...but I buy it myself if I want it. I’m surprised they risked it with allergies and all that.

Our company has a points/rewards system but this is stuff you get from managers or co-workers
when you go above and beyond; sometimes you get them when you think you’re just doing your job but someone thinks it was a really good job (and I’m not going to say no to money). 500 pts = $50 and items on the site correlate well with what you’d pay in store for electronics, kitchenware, etc.
plus they have really extraordinary items like an “F1 Experience” which pays for race tickets, hotel, and possibly more. The amount of points for something like that would probably take a whole career to accumulate.
4 towels for 3500 points: if they’re really thick, plush, cotton bath towels, I can see that. New towels are the kind of thing I could use but once I see the price I’d rather spend it on beer instead.
Companies in general need to get their shit together - our team busted our asses to be the best in our province and we got $600+ for the team to spend as we wished (we opted for steaks and cocktails, it’ll be a long time before I have a $50 steak again). However, this makes me want to keep performing well for my company because they take care of me instead of firing me every year for two months and wondering why I won’t come back.

Given what you’ve posted here about your employer I think this is about as good as it gets.

last year it was $150 voucher to be used nearly everywhere

no, no - he chose to work for free, and this is the “gift” the employer gives in appreciation. :)
My employer has something similar. I completed a project earlier this year - about 30 hours of off the clock time - I got points which would get me a toaster, a cell phone backup battery or last season’s athletic socks. I got the socks, (they turn out to be nice socks...)

I was wondering what that bit in the middle was.

Yeah, I think the only Christmas gift/bonus I’ve ever received from any of my employers was a ~$20 bottle of Champagne one year. Which honestly I’m fine with, I’d rather just be paid fairly in the first place rather than getting a “gift” at the end of the year.

its traditional christmas food here..sooo... if you do happen to be allergic to it you’ll just have to give your free loaf away or something
(tbh... we’re remarkably inconsiderate to allergys or vegetarians when it comes to traditions over here... at least in work settings)

I got my “Christmas Bonus” today. Almost $1400. Of my own money. I saved $ 0.50 for every flat rate hour I turned this year, 2764 hours. Taking a little me time th e first weekend of January. Not sure where I am going yet, either Nashville or Indy. Was going to pay some bills, but I work hard every day to do that. So nope, gonna blow it all on a vacation. Everyone else was pissed because I was the only one that got a “bonus. ” Nice. The company offered t he incentive and they pay the taxes on it so I get the full amount. A pparently I was the only person to do it. Everyone else signed up for it next year :)
